The Brownwood Art Association will be seeking entries for the second annual Christmas Photo Contest in conjunction with the 4th annual Christmas Under the Stars Festival.
The photos will be on display at the Lehnis Railroad Museum on Friday, December 7th and Saturday, December 8th from 4-8 p.m. during the Christmas Under the Stars Festival.
Cash prizes for first and second place will be awarded in categories of ages 15 & under, ages 15-20, ages 21 & up, professional, and best "Scared of Santa" photo. A ribbon will be awarded for People’s Choice as attendees choose their favorite photo during the contest.
There is a $5 fee per entry, and photographs will be accepted at the Lehnis Railroad Museum on Saturday, December 1st from 1-3:30pm. All photos must be framed with wire or hook and be ready to hang.
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with the First United Methodist Church Weekday Pre-School for the 3rd Annual Santa's Sleigh 5K.
The event will take place at Gordon Wood Stadium on Saturday, December 8th at 9 a.m., with all proceeds benefiting the FUMC Weekday Pre-school.
The pre-school is located inside the First United Methodist Church in Brownwood, but operates on its own budget separate from the church as a non-profit organization. The funds raised from the Santa's Sleigh 5K will help provide supplies and other educational material for the pre-school over the next year.
Registration is $25 per runner and forms are available now at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce office, most area fitness centers, and the FUMC Weekday Pre-School.
Packet and t-shirt pickup and last-chance registration will take place during the Christmas Under the Stars Festival on Friday, December 7th inside the Depot (600 E. Depot St.) between 5-7pm. T-shirts will be available to the first 50 to register for the race so early registration is encouraged.
The 2012 Christmas season is upon us with festivities beginning Thursday December 6th around 6:30 p.m. with the Lighted Christmas Parade presented by Southside Church.

Be serenaded by the sounds of Christmas from local talent and community choirs while you give Santa and Mrs. Claus your wish list.
Funnel Cake, homemade chili, sausage wraps, and hot chocolate are a few of the tasty treats to try while the kiddos build crosses and decorate Christmas ornaments, cookies, and pet food bowls.
Glide around the ice skating rink then stroll to the Railroad Museum and experience Choo Choo Christmas. While you are there, support a local nonprofit and bid on a fully decorated Christmas tree, ride the mini train, and vote for your favorite Christmas photo. If you have a competitive side, enter one of several competitions such as Santa’s Sleigh 5K run, the Amazing Race, the Photo Contest, or Treats for Santa bakeoff.
Bring your four legged family members to the Depot on Saturday for the Best Christmas Pet Costume Contest hosted by the Corinne T. Smith Animal Center. We can’t forget to mention Christmas Karaoke – you know you can’t resist the urge to belt out your favorite holiday tune! With so many activities, we can’t list them all.
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting on Thursday, October 25th for Brownwood Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Brownwood Nursing and Rehabilitation was founded in 1980. The newly renovated facility offers long and short term nursing and rehabilitation services and are Medicare and Medicaid approved. On Tuesday, November 13th they will be hosting a Grand Re-opening open house from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM to celebrate the updated facility and to give tours of the Transitional Care/Private Medicare Suites. The public is invited and light refreshments will be served.
The Brown County Museum of History is offering a photography exhibit which opened Saturday, November 3rd.
The "History Through the Photographer's Lens" features photos taken by the Brownwood Art Association's Photography Group. The group recently held a photo shoot and captured interesting images from within the museum.
The exhibit will be open to the public in the Museum Annex - 209 N. Broadway (across from the Old Jail) - during regular museum hours - Thursdays and Fridays 10am-2pm and Saturdays 10am-4pm.
The photo group will be displaying their best work at the exhibit and will be competing for first and second place awards based on creativity.

The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, October 24th for Caring Family Network in celebration of their new office location.
Caring Family Network (CFN) is a foster care and adoption agency licensed by the State of Texas. The local agency held their annual fundraiser “A Nite at the Races” on October 27th at Sorrel Canyon Ranch.
The next Chamber's Monthly Luncheon will be Friday, October 19 at the Brownwood Country Club from 11:30 AM to 1 PM. The luncheon is open to members and guests. It will feature an interesting program, door prizes, introduction of new members and the "Aces Wild" Cash Drawing-which features a guaranteed winner each month.
