The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce is getting set for their annual Business Expo, and complimentary passes are currently available for the event scheduled September 7th.
The 23rd Annual Brownwood Business Expo will feature over 70 local businesses in various lines of trade. The show will open at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 7th at the Brownwood Coliseum and will feature well known, established businesses as well as some of the newest in the Brownwood area.
Admission at the door will be $2 and the complimentary passes are currently available for a limited time at the Brownwood Chamber of Commerce office - 600 E. Depot St.
"All visitors to the show will have the opportunity to win booth prizes from each of the exhibitors," said Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce Membership Director Jennifer Barberie. "Those who participate in 'Expo Bingo' may enter to win the grand prize - $500 cash."
For the 11th year, the Taste of Brownwood returns to offer the community the opportunity to sample favorite recipes from local restaurants, caterers and bakeries. From 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, expo visitors can sample tasty treats. Each visitor will receive 4 free Taste of Brownwood tickets with the $2 admission fee. Those who choose to enter with a complimentary pass will need to purchase Taste of Brownwood tickets for $1 each at the door the day of the show.
"Make plans to attend, visit with people you have known for years and get to know the new faces in town," Barberie said. "Take time to learn about the products and services offered by each one of these local business owners."
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting on Thursday, July 27th for Poppy's Sweets N Treats.
They offer a variety of food items such as snow cones, fruit cups, ice cream, shaved ice, frozen pickles, nachos, chili cheese dogs, Frito pies and more. Poppy's Sweets N Treats slogan is "Where Sweets R Sweet.........N Service Is Sweeter!"
They are located at 710 W. Austin Avenue in Brownwood and open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 8:00 pm and Sunday from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm or find them on Facebook.
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting on July 21st for KG Dance Studio.
KG Dance Studio is located at 3610 Durham Avenue in Brownwood and is family owned by Karey and Dan Morelock and daughter Stefenia Phipps. Karey was born and raised in Brownwood and has taught dance for over 30 years. They offer Pre-K Dance, Ballet/ Jazz Tap, Hip Hop, Acro (Acrobatics), Drill/Cheer instruction-ages 3 and up and end of year recitals.

The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting on Monday, July 10 for their newest member Fiesta Filipino.
Fiesta Filipino is a grocery store and mini cafe. Customers can purchase ethnic snack foods and base ingredients for traditional Filipino dishes. They currently offer a small menu featuring Pancit and plan to expand their offerings soon. They also offer bubble tea and smoothies in several flavors with "pearls" made from tapioca.
Fiesta Filipino is located at 211 E. Baker Street in Brownwood and are open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce and the America's Small Business Development Center are offering a business workshop titled "Marketing to the 4 Generations" on Tuesday, July 11th from 11:30 am-1:00 pm at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce.
This workshop will help attendees understand the four generations in today's workforce and consumer market and how best to reach and connect with them. Understanding the differences in the generations can help businesses decide the best marketing avenue to take to reach their customers and clients.
There is no cost for this workshop for Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce members. Non-member fee is $10. Attendees may bring a lunch.
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for its 2017-2018 Leadership Brownwood class.
Spanning eight months from September through April, Leadership Brownwood is designed to increase individual and community leadership skills. The beginning retreat, the first Wednesday in September, focuses on individual leadership styles and techniques. Starting in October and ending in April, the class then spends one day per month examining specific aspects of the community such as education, government, local business and economic development, health and human services, the criminal justice system, and tourism.
Leadership Brownwood began in the mid-80’s by the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce as a community leadership development program. The program is dedicated to educating, developing, and empowering current and future leaders for the community and motivating them to serve civic, charitable, and business organizations.
The insights participants gain as they explore the inner workings of the community serves as a foundation for their long-term involvement in Brown County in a variety of leadership roles.
Tuition is $495 per person and includes transportation to tour sites, meals for each session, course materials, and class shirts.

Upon the retirement of C.T. Ham's 40 years in this community, Kelli Lenzi took over the Farmers business and location on February 1, 2017. Lenzi Insurance Agency will continue the one-on-one service to their longtime customers and new households. Kelli's office offers Farmers products - auto, home, business, life, renters, motorcycle, umbrella and recreational vehicle insurance. This workshop is geared for those new to Microsoft Excel or those who want to freshen up their skills. The workshop will begin with the ABC’s of the spreadsheet program and progress to learn some of the advanced features to make financial tasks less time-consuming. At this hands-on interactive workshop (BYOL - Bring Your Own Laptop), attendees will learn how to create, edit, format and print spreadsheets that focus on the business owner’s needs. Some of the features being taught will include, information entry (data, text), cut, copy, paste, paste special, formatting (cells, columns, rows), cell references (general, absolute), basic formulas (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), naming sheet tabs, printing challenges (title, headers, footers, margins), spreadsheet templates (balance sheets, profit & loss, cash flow report, loan amortization) and more.
