Planning for Brown County’s National Night Out is underway, and organizers for the event will distribute block party packets this week.
Registered block party captains and those interested in holding a block party can pick up a packet at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce or the Early Chamber of Commerce starting on Wednesday, September 23. The packets will include a block party guide with invitations, tips on holding a party, information about National Night Out and other goodies that can be distributed to each block party. Block party captains will also receive a t-shirt and a yard sign to help promote the event.
Also added this year is a food drive to benefit Good Samaritan Ministries. Each party is encouraged to collect as much canned tuna as they can which will be collected by area law enforcement officers during National Night Out. An award will be presented to the party collecting the most cans of tuna. Awards will also be given to the Best Overall Party, Best New Party and the Best Party Food.
Each block party captain registered to host a party will also be entered into a drawing to win a flat screen TV which will be given away after National Night Out.
This year, National Night Out will be held on Tuesday, October 6th from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in neighborhoods across Brown County. Dozens of neighborhoods have already signed up to participate in National Night Out, but many areas still need to be represented. Organizers are encouraging all residents to participate and make sure their neighborhood is signed up to have these neighborhood gatherings, cookouts, and parties. Law enforcement officials and emergency responders will visit each party during the event.
National Night Out is designed to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. Law enforcement officials are encouraging residents to use the event to not only to get to know their neighbors better, but in some cases, to plant the seeds for a neighborhood watch program.
