On March 25, 2021, the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce held the 3rd Annual Professional Women’s Summit at the Depot Cultural and Civic Center. Ladies in attendance heard inspirational messages, had access to free professional headshots by Mike Jones, manicures provided by Ranger College, and massages by Recharge and Rebeca Walters, LMT. With the mission to educate, equip, and empower professional women, this year’s summit brought in speakers from various backgrounds to offer insight into the culture and climate of women in the workplace.

Speakers spoke on the topics of personal excellence, cultural competence, and diversified resume building. Angela Chevalier, Senior Warden at the Havins Unit in Brownwood, TX, began the presentations. Following lunch, a panel spoke about workplace culture and how to have an effective working environment. On the panel was Dean of Education for Howard Payne University Dr. Kylah Clark-Goff, Practice Director for Smile Doctors Braces Sally England, Owner/Operator for Chick-fil-a Bridget Jones, and Business Development Representative for River Crest Hospital Mica Allgood. Dr. Flor Madero, Associate Professor of Communication for Angelo State University, engaged the audience with a conversation about cultural competence. Ending the day’s presentations we heard from Cheryl Jones, Brown County District Clerk, gave insight on the power of a diversified resume and highlighted women in the Brown County that have used their talents to build a successful career.

The Chamber welcomed close to 120 women from Brown County, Houston, and San Angelo. We gave away 35 door prizes throughout the day.
